“I often regrettably delve into astrology. I don’t quite know what attracts me to the information regarding my ruling planets, all my stars, and how they are all aligned to please me, but I do find it fascinating. The other day I was reading about my own sign, Pisces, and how much we water lovers rely on music in our daily lives.

Music truly is the root of it all for me. It’s where my mind branches out and where I can hide in my own leaves, thus, I am constantly cycling though my life with a soundtrack. At this very moment I am listening to King of Limbs, Radiohead’s new album. I wonder why my Pisces profile doesn’t simply state: Radiohead, as I am always living my life by Thom’s lyrics. If those of you out there haven’t bought their eight newest songs yet, I highly recommend you do.

I am astounded by how often I go months without hearing about the world’s new favorite band, probably too focused on my watery emotions so says my Horoscope. What are you listening to at the moment? And don’t give me Ke dollar sign Ha or that Nicki Mirage person, I know about them already!

20 October 2010 - We recently sat down with Emily Osment to talk about her acting career and her new debut album, Fight or Flight.

Kidzworld: You are well-known for your work on Hannah Montana and Spy Kids, but you have recently turned to music, do you plan to do more acting in the future?

Emily: I have many future plans with acting. I love it with all my heart and it allows me to express myself in ways I never thought possible.

Kidzworld: Were you surprised that your single Let’s be Friends was such a hit? What did that feel like?

Emily: Yes, very surprised. It’s not even the single in the states! It is such a silly song and it makes me wanna dance. I hope it does for you too!

Kidzworld: You have a new album out, and got to work with big-time producer Nellee Hooper, who has been behind big name acts like Madonna, U2 and No Doubt. What was it like making the album?

Emily: An unforgettable experience. Every day I learned more about making music and how I wanted to be perceived in the music industry. Nellee is a complete inspiration and really helped me find a cohesive sound to this record.

Kidzworld: How would you describe your new album Fight of Flight? Did you do a lot of the songwriting?

Emily: This is my first debut record. I feel like every song is a piece of me and it’s a bit frightening to think that all of these little pieces of my heart are on one record and you can literally buy it. I worked for a year making and writing this music and I can’t wait to see the reaction when it comes out on the fifth of October.

Kidzworld: Have you always wanted to do music? What set you in that direction?

Emily: My family really set me on the right path with that one. I grew up listening to all of those bands you are supposed to listen to. My brother introduced me to Radiohead, Incubus and Beck and I thought to myself, “How can I make other people feel the way that I feel right now when I listen to a song that I love?”

Kidzworld: You have been touring lately; what do you like most about that experience?

Emily: The entire lifestyle of touring is my most favorite thing in the world. A different city every night, traveling across the country with a circus of 50 people you absolutely love, sleeping in a waking up only to sound check in your PJs and mostly the feeling you get when you walk on stage, it’s the most fun I have ever had. I am obsessed with my band and I love getting up and exploring around a city with them. I never want to stop doing this.

Kidzworld: What’s been the most embarrassing moment for you in the entertainment biz so far?

Emily: Growing up in the spotlight can be hard, but I feel I have done a pretty good job of keeping my most embarrassing moments to myself.

Kidzworld: Who would you like to work with the most terms of acting?

Emily: Ralph Fiennes, Meryl Streep, Ed Norton, Emma Stone, Baz Luhrmann and Ben Affleck.

Kidzworld: Your brother is a pretty famous actor [Haley Joel Osment]. Are you two competitive with your talents? How are you guys different?

Emily: Absolutely not, we are not competitive with our careers only our sports. We are four years apart so we do live different lives on opposite coasts but we listen to the exact same type of music and love the same books, and we’re related, so we have a lot in common.

Emily Osment Crashed A Prom

Emily Osment makes a lot of sacrifices for her career.
She tells gURL that while working on Hannah Montana she even missed her own prom!
"We shot the final episode on the day of my prom," Osment laments. "I didn't go to prom, but I tried to crash a prom on the night of my prom.

I was with my friend Drew Roy who plays Hannah's boyfriend and we were celebrating the end of the show. So we went out and we're like, 'Let's go crash the prom,' so we got dressed up. It wasn’t successful, but I had a good time."Wonder if she tried to use her celebrity to get inside? Either way, she probably had more fun than many people who really did get to go. Still, she's been trying to make up for it by dancing as much as possible.

"This (points to her bruised elbow) was from a dance party actually on my tour bus. I was dancing with my friend Leo and there were so many people on the bus. We got a little too excited and we were dancing crazily and knocking into the fridge.

Emily Osment pours out sugary hits

By the time Emily Osment took to the stage Wednesday night at Toronto's Queen Elizabeth Theatre as the SodaPop tour headliner most of her loyal teenaged female fans stood patiently.

However a few youngsters - obviously up way past their bedtime - were content to sit back, hopefully stay awake and avoid another earthquake.

Regardless, Osment, 18, and her four-piece group delivered a sweet and relatively short set of Disney-designed, radio-friendly power pop a la Miley Cyrus and that Jonas Brothers cartel.

The performer, also known for her television and film career, started with the chipper I Hate The Homecoming Queen from last year's debut EP All The Right Wrongs. Wearing a black sleeveless dress and glad-handing fans, Osment quickly went into The Cycle with similar results. "Thank you so much," she said before encouraging fans to play instruments and become "the future of music."

Although she took to the stage a bit later than scheduled, fans might have been lucky to see Osment at all after telling the audience her tour bus broke down prior to arriving. There was no word on whether Osment felt the earthquake or the upcoming G20 Summit was responsible.

From there the performer moved through material focused on power pop such as the roots-tinged Average Girl and Fight Or Flight, the latter perhaps reminding fans of oldies acts like No Doubt. One highlight however was All The Way Up, a dance-based ditty that had Osment donning glasses whose rims lit up.

Perhaps the highlight -- despite more crowd-pleasers that came such as Let's Be Friends -- was What About Me which had fans singing and clapping along to.

And while Osment was the icing on this six-tiered bill, fans had plenty to cheer about earlier in the night with five supporting acts.
None made more of a mark however than The New Cities, another power punk-tinged pop group who definitely had the crowd literally and figuratively hopping. Songs such as Hypertronic Superstar, Leaders Of The Misled and The Cure-ish Dead End Countdown energized both young and younger.

Meanwhile local teen heartthrob Jesse Labelle made a homecoming of sorts with his performance, although noting that he felt butterflies early on. Labelle however managed to work his way through safe, radio-friendly, John Mayer-ish tunes such as Australia, Perfect Accident, I Wanna Run and Easier.

Elsewhere, early openers WOW mixed boy band efforts with dance moves and Alyssa Reid reworked Justin Bieber's One Less Lonely Girl into her own song named One More Lonely Boy. And Danny Fernandes worked the crowd up with Auto-Tune numbers such as Fantasy, Private Dancer and Addicted.

Regardless of the rather formulaic teeny bopper bill, the artists should be commended for reportedly performing at a local sick kids hospital earlier in the day. And by purchasing "SodaPop Balls," fans were able to go to a meet-and-greet after the show with proceeds from the balls going to UNICEF to assist those affected by the earthquake earlier this year in Haiti.

Allstar Weekend will be holding a meet and greet on Saturday, June 26th from 2-4pm during Taste of Joliet at Joliet Memorial Stadium while the next day, June 27th, at 2:30pm Radio Disney will be presenting the free concert with Emily and Allstar Weekend during the Taste of Chicago at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park.

Osment stretches out from her Disney roots

At 18, Emily Osment is in the middle of an awkward phase, trying to move from child star to credible adult actor and singer.

She could follow in the footsteps of her brother, Haley Joel Osment, who went from Oscar-nominated actor to nobody in less than 10 years. Or, she could copy her Hannah Montana colleague, Miley Cyrus, who seems destined for a public flame-out as she parties her way through Europe, wears sexy bird outfits, and pretends to kiss girls in a desperate attempt to shed her goody-two-shoes Disney image.

Neither path is appealing for Osment, who played Hannah Montana's best friend, Lilly Truscott, on the hit TV show. (While the cast celebrated their wrap party in May, the fourth and final season has yet to air.)
"I'm one of those people who didn't use Disney as an excuse to be on the straight and narrow," says Osment.

"I'm a good kid. I have no problems saying that. I'm a good kid and I have good values and I'm really very lucky for the things that I get to do. I just feel very fortunate every day and I don't take anything for granted.

"I'm just happy with where I am and I don't want to mess anything up. I'm very careful."

Osment is almost too careful.

Even though she's headlining MuchMusic's SodaPOP tour, she "can't really say much" about her next album, due in the next few months, for one of the most un-Disney of record labels, Wind-up Records. (She's one of the few female acts on a roster dominated by testosterone rock bands, including Creed, Finger Eleven, Drowning Pool, Seether and Thriving Ivory.)

MuchMusic's SodaPOP 2010 tour is headlined by Emily Osment with supporting acts Jesse Labelle, Danny Fernandes, The New Cities and Alyssa Reid.

"I've always loved music my whole life and it's been a big part of my life for a very long time," said Osment in a recent telephone interview from her home in Los Angeles.

Osment, 18, is most famously known for her role as Lily Truscott and Lola Luftnangle in Disney's Hannah Montana sitcom and movie. She's also the younger sister of Academy Award-nominated actor Haley Joel Osment.

After releasing her first album, All The Wrong Reasons, in October 2009, she's already been back in the studio and is finishing production on her sophomore album due out before the end of the year. The first single from that album, "Let's Be Friends," was just released this week in the United States.
"The music I've been working on now is so much different -- like very, very different from the previous record. It wasn't like I tried to do it, it just sort of happened," she said, adding she was influenced by listening to new music and recent life experiences.

"I was in a writing session yesterday and we decided the sounds coming out of this new record were like bull fighting with ninja swords -- which makes absolutely no sense," she said. "But, it's completely true. The music that's coming out is just indescribable and the sounds are very strange and there isn't anyone out there doing crazy tracks and crazy beats on an album with a girl singer.

"I kind of feel like a rap artist. It's pretty cool."

Osment says a lot of the music for the new album came out of Pro Tools and it's all based in technology, even though the songs were mostly written using a guitar or bass.

Promoters are calling SodaPOP a young adult-focused lifestyle event that is fully interactive with video footage from the artists and MuchMusic, gaming stations and interactive booths.

The tour is also supporting UNICEF with its Pop Goes the World campaign. UNICEF will be onsite raising awareness for the long-term reconstruction efforts in Haiti.

"Why wouldn't you want to be involved in something like that?" Osment asked, adding that January's earthquake in Haiti and subsequent devastation gave her a bigger global consciousness.

"You walk around the street and everybody is thinking the same thing and you can talk about it to anyone, because everyone knows about it, and that was a really cool experience for me. The whole world knew about it and we became very connected over it," she said.

"But still, it wasn't a personal experience for me, so all I can do is try to bring my friends together to do something or get involved with an organization like the SodaPOP tour."

UNICEF unites Hannah Montana's Emily Osment with other rising stars

TORONTO, Ont. - UNICEF will be bringing artists together at the Queen Elizabeth theatre on June 23 for SodaPOP's "Pop Goes The World" campaign.

The tour has brought some of today's hottest international and domestic pop artists to 16 Canadian cities, from Vancouver to Halifax. Headlining this year's festival is Hannah Montana's Emily Osment. She will be supported by Toronto's Jesse Labelle, R&B sensation Danny Fernandes, The New Cities and Alyssa Reid.

This is the first annual SodaPOP tour. The MuchMusic sponsored festival will provide a fully interactive experience. It will incorporate large screens with featured video footage from the artists and MuchMusic, gaming stations and interactive booths. As well, the festival offers audiences a unique opportunity to interact directly with the artists through a postshow "fan fest"/autograph session that will take place following each night's performance.UNICEF will be onsite raising awareness and funds for the charity's long-term reconstruction efforts in Haiti. At the end of each performance all participating artists will join together in an updated rendition of the 80's hit single "Pop Goes The World."

"The tour gives Canadian youths the opportunity to help their Haitian peers who are the most vulnerable during this disaster," said Susan Larkin, Director of Community Engagement for UNICEF Canada, in a press release.

A studio recording of the song will be made available for sale digitally with profits going to UNICEF's Haiti efforts.

They say your first album takes a lifetime to write.

That lifetime spans a mere 17 years for Emily Osment, but that hasn't stopped the teen idol from realizing her dreams and releasing a hit record.

Osment, who previously starred as Lilly Truscott on the Hannah Montana show, stormed onto the music scene last fall with All The Right Wrongs -- an eight-song EP that has produced two hit singlesIt was a big step for the young singer, but also a natural progression for someone who grew up in a musical household.

"I got into music at a very young age, and everyone in my family loves music," said Osment, calling from the road between Vancouver and Calgary on her SodaPOP tour, which hits Hamilton Friday.

"But nobody ever pushed me into anything, and that goes for acting, too."

A former child prodigy on the silver screen, Osment got her first big break in the popular Spy Kids franchise before making the jump to Hannah Montana in 2006.

Osment starred as Hannah's best friend, Lilly, and appeared in 86 episodes of the show alongside fellow teen idols Miley Cyrus and Mitchell Musso.

But despite her success behind the camera, Osment always held a special place in her heart for music, especially for bands such as Radiohead, REM and Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette.

Admittedly, it took a long time for the singer to find her own style.

"Oh God, most of the concerts I went to when I was little were, like, Herman's Hermits and that sort of thing," said Osment, letting out a slight giggle.

"When I got a little older, I started going to concerts that I really enjoyed. I saw bands like Incubus and Radiohead, and I fell in love. They looked like they were having so much fun, and I wanted to do that."

Osment's older brother Haley Joel (of The Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward fame) also had a big impact on her musical development.

"When we were younger, my brother definitely helped me learn guitar. But he lives on the other side of the country now, so we don't get to jam much.

After seeing Emily Osment for years on TV and film, most notably as Hannah Montana's best friend Lilly Truscott, fans will now get their first chance to hear her in concert. She will perform on MuchMusic's first annual SodaPOP tour which will stop in Fredericton at a sold-out show on Monday, June 28 at The Playhouse. Osment will be joined by Toronto-born singer and songwriter Jesse Labelle, R&B sensation Danny Fernandes, dance-rock group The New Cities and new pop artist Alyssa Reid.

In a telephone interview with The Daily Gleaner from Edmonton, where Osment was on a tour stopover, she talked about her music, this tour and life after Hannah Montana, a Disney Channel hit TV show. Her character is best friends with Hannah Montana. Is Osment best friends with Miley Cyrus?"Sure. Yeah ... We have known each other for six years."

When the show started, Osment was 13. No one, including Osment, had any idea it would be the mega Disney hit that it has become. Osment says she believes shows like this one don't come around often. She calls it a privilege to work on a show where the writers made it what it was with great scripts that took into account the interests and tastes of the kid viewers.

"We had a lot of fun. In the beginning it was kind of like playing myself because at that age I was goofy and crazy and I didn't really care what anyone else thought of me. Both of us grew up and they adjusted the character a bit."

This 18-year-old, who resides in Los Angeles, is now focusing on her music and part of that includes this seven-week tour which she calls a whole lot of fun.

"I love being on the road and seeing all of these kids and I love playing music with my band. It's like a party all the time."

Emily Osment is no stranger to the limelight.

At the young age of six, she had already played a major role in "Sarah Plain and Tall" alongside Glenn Close and Christopher Walken. But by 2006, Emily Osment landed the coveted role of Lily Truscott in Disney’s hit TV show "Hannah Montana."

Recently, 17-year-old Osment chose to take a different path – towards music.

“I’ve been writing and recording for a long time,” Osment said in Toronto recently. “Two years ago I decided, ‘Hmm I should probably release this at some point.’”

"All the Right Wrongs" was released last fall and she just completed a tour in Canada.

During a visit to Toronto, Osment took the time to answer questions about her new album, her role in Hannah Montana (which ends its run next year), competing with a brother who saw dead people in "Sixth Sense," and why she admires Alanis Morrisette.

You went from acting, and then moved over to singing. What made you decide to do that?My mom is an English teacher and so I grew up writing and my brother is a musician as well... Emily Osment Finds Jon Cryer as Father on 'Hannah Montana'

An upcoming episode of "Hannah Montana" will see Jon Cryer playing dad to Emily Osment. The "Two and a Half Men" star has landed a guest role on the Disney series as Lilly Truscott's father, Kenneth, and will appear in an episode titled "The Wheel Near My Bed (Keeps On Turnin')".

The particular episode revolves around Lilly. When her mom accepts a job in Atlanta, Lilly comes to live with the Stewarts. After overhearing Miley Cyrus's Miley complaining about their living arrangement however, the teenager moves into her dad's cramped apartment. With her acting career now grounded on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, Emily Osment then embarked on her music. Even though it looks like she's going pretty far with her singing and style, she can't help but feel the need for more appearances on the show that catapulted her to fame.

Having recently debuted her first music video, "All the Way Up," Emily Osment is likely headed for a rockstar life. She worked on the video with the band Push Play and it was such a success that she can't wait for more.

"The video was so fun, Push Play plays my band. We're buddies," she said in an interview as noted by Ace Showbiz. "It was really fun; we shot it in a mock apartment where you could see what's going on in every room. I'm playing music upstairs and you can see how it's affecting all the rooms below."

You can catch a glimpse of her music video, "All the Way Up," if you scroll downwards. The song already premiered on Radio Disney earlier this month, and will appear on Emily Osment's forthcoming album. It doesn't have a title as of now, but fans will be lining up for it when it's launched on March 2010.

So there's the music video, but Emily's still makes a better Lily Truscott and she's not giving that up. The actress admitted to The Celebrity CafÃ© how much she enjoys filming Hannah Montana, and that she hopes it will continue for the fans' sake.

The 17-year-old Osment exclaimed that she wanted to do a fifth season of the show, despite the news that the fourth will be the end for the Disney Channel series.

"I don't think anyone wants to see Hannah Montana ever end, so I think we need to do that," she said. "We need to do something like 'Hannah Montana Goes to London' or 'Hannah Montana on Ice!'"

While we can imagine the cast of Hannah Montana decked in tights and skates on a rink, we don't think that'd be possible. It'd be a riot to watch their antics on ice though.

Like Hillary Clinton, Miley Cyrus (a.k.a. Hannah Montana) is a polarizing figure. Either people seem to love her, or they hate her . . . and sometimes without even seeing the 16 year old in action. The age groups that fawn all over Miley/Hannah are mostly impressionable 'tweens and younger, but I'll tell you this: Parents could do a lot worse for a role model for their kids.

Miley, of course, is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus--he of the "Achy Breaky Heart"--and she's the star of the hit Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana." In it, she plays a remarkably close version of herself, an illusion that's helped by the casting of Billy Ray as her TV father as well. In the show she's Miley Stewart, whose Dad Robby Ray is a singer-songwriter and whose brother is a ne'er-do-well goofball who lives for sibling rivalry and practical jokes. Like a teen-princess version of a superhero, Miley is an average brunette high school student by day, but a blonde wig-wearing pop star by night. The ruse is supposed to enable her to live a normal life, but the structure also rather shrewdly appeals to young girls who secretly (or perhaps not-so-secretly) harbor pop star dreams of their own. I recently took a Disney Cruise, and girls as young as four were belting out karaoke versions of Hannah Montana hits onstage. "Hannah Montana" is a legitimate phenomenon.

The TV show reminds me a lot of the old "I Love Lucy" series, with Miley doing a darned good job of handling Lucille Ball-style comedy and Emily Osment functioning as both the obligatory teen best friend and the kind of partner-in-comedy-crime that Vivian Vance provided for Lucy. Even the situations seem straight out of the Lucy playbook. And probably true to high-school form, the boys play the "clowns," with Miley's brother Jackson (Jason Earles), guy-friend Oliver (Mitchel Musso), and little annoying Rico (Moises Arias) providing even broader comedy.

In this film, Hannah is having a hard time balancing her pop-star career and obligations to family and friends. When she gets into a headline-grabbing fight with Tyra Banks over a pair of shoes and steals best-friend Lilly's thunder at her sweet sixteen party, her dad packs her off to Tennessee so she can rediscover who she is. The plot itself is a familiar one--the big-city success who discovers what Thomas Wolfe said, that it's tough to go home again--but like every conflicted movie character before her (Miley gets her head straight and realizes how important her roots are. And of course helping her find herself is a love interest, a cowboy-hat-wearing young man she knew when she was little. The characters may be different, but we've seen the formula before in such films as "Sweet Home Alabama" (2002) and "Hope Floats" (1998).

So will fans of "Hannah Montana" the TV show like "Hannah Montana: The Movie"?

Début musical

Emily Osment est actrice depuis l'âge de 4 ans. Outre son personnage de Lilly Truscott dans Hannah Montana, elle est surtout connue pour son personnage de Gerti Giggles dans les films Spy Kids.

Emily Osment's debut album will be released across United States on March 9, 2010, according to USA Today. The effort, which is yet to be titled, reportedly will be produced by Matt Squire (Taking Back Sunday, Boys Like Girls, Panic! At the Disco).

Explaining about the materials she is currently recording for the project, Emily confirms the songs are "definitely pop, but with an alternative-rock edge." She adds, "It's music you'll want to play in the car with the windows rolled down."

The Lilly Truscott of "Hannah Montana" is said to contribute behind songwriting desk for most of the songs in the upcoming album. She will collaborate with Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's and Eve 6's members, Max Collins and Tony Fagenson. Furthermore, a new song "All the Way Up" is rumored to hit Radio Disney this August with an accompanying video, which features band Push Play, to be debuted later on.

Emily Osment, the 17-year-old actress who plays the title character's best friend on the series, is certainly following that path. First there was co-star Miley Cyrus, then co-star Mitchel Musso, and now it's her turn.

USA Today reports that Osment's still-untitled debut album will be released in March next year. She co-wrote all the songs that will be featured, and is currently recording them for the album's launch. It will be produced by Matt Squire, known for backing up bands such as Taking Back Sunday, Panic at the Disco, and Boys Like Girls.
